Stories with
something at stake.

Aaron Bear is a GLAAD Media Award-winning documentary filmmaker drawn to the intersection of identity, power, and the lives that challenge familiar narratives.

His documentary Yes I Am – The Ric Weiland Story received Special Recognition at the 2024 GLAAD Media Awards. Through intimate storytelling and a sharp sense of historical context, Bear brings overlooked lives into focus, asking audiences to look beyond reputation, institution, and assumption.

His approach is patient, curious, and attentive to complexity. He makes room for people to be seen in full—and for a story to evolve as trust deepens.

With A Light in Cañon City, he turns that lens toward incarceration and reentry, following the work of Breakthrough inside Colorado prisons and the lives that continue beyond release.
